Bicycle micro-caravan

Project: BiciRoula

Shape

Problem

BiciRoula, the project conceived by Cristiano Fabris, is a micro-caravan towed by a bicycle, including e-bikes. To work, it has to be light above all: every extra kilo shows on climbs, when braking and in battery range. A conventional fibreglass shell needs a dedicated mould, with tooling time and costs that are hard to justify for the first unit of a brand-new product.

Need

A light, stiff shell, compact on the road (about 100 × 75 cm, 99 cm high) and able to extend to 180 cm for sleeping, ready for insulation, reinforcement, bodywork and custom graphics. No mould involved.

Solution

D.CAB built the BiciRoula trailer module by large-format 3D printing, using the NUGAE system and CoreLight3D®. The shell comes straight from the design file, with no moulds and no milling. After printing it was reinforced, insulated with non-toxic materials, finished and painted, then completed with a wheel, tow bar, insulated floor, custom mattress and a clear-vinyl side window.

Benefits

About 15 kg for the printed shell and about 28 kg for the complete micro-caravan, light enough to be towed by a bicycle or e-bike.

No mould and no milling: from file to part, ideal for a first unit and for design updates without new tooling.

Shell ready for insulation, bodywork and customisation.

Compact on the road (100 × 75 × 99 cm), extends to 180 cm for the night.

Unveiled at the 2026 Salone del Camper in Parma and touring Italy with the "Italia365" tour.
