Problem

A 7.5-metre fisherman needed a rigid custom hardtop in place of its canvas cover. Making a pattern and a mould for a single boat would have cost more than the part itself.

Need

A light, strong roof perfectly fitted to the existing cabin, starting from the 3D model supplied by the owner's designer, with contained lead time and cost.

Solution

Robotic 3D printing of the hardtop (250 cm long, 60 to 47 cm wide, 130 cm high) in high-performance materials, split into a few elements for transport, with geometries optimised for stiffness and weight; lamination, finishing and on-board installation at the yard.

Benefits

No mould; just 24 kg, printed in 20 hours; delivery in about 90 working days from order; a light, easy-to-handle structure shipped on a standard truck and fitted at the yard; a competitive cost for a one-off part.
